Watch first. Then let’s see if we’re thinking the same thing by the end.
First Impression
The trailer doesn’t give us much to chew on; it’s not quite “walking through an empty world,” but it’s flirting with it! I’ll give it points for spear fishing and seasonal changes that look like they (will?) matter, but it loses ground on the music and overall lack of substance.
The Basics
Platform: PC (Steam, Epic)
Developer: Gamegine
Publisher: Gamegine
Permanent Home: Website
Expected Release: TBD
Survival or BS?
How this game measures against my 5 Pillars of Survival Games – the framework I developed to identify authentic survival experiences vs. marketing fluff.
- Necessities: At this point, the devs haven’t given us enough meat to judge it by the pillars. Beyond some concept art and a vibe trailer, there’s basically zero concrete detail to make an educated call.
- Management: See Necessities
- World: It’s encouraging that they’re including seasons, but that’s the most we’ve gotten in terms of that. It could be as little as “there IZ SNOW” or actually impact both the character and how you handle the world. Guess we shall see.
- Resources: See Necessities
- Health: See Necessities
Development
- I talked to Berna, the marketer—they confirmed Nomad is the studio’s passion project, and the team is a tight-knit crew of about 7 or 8. Their first game, Good Kill (a Vietnam FPS in early access), served as a sandbox for leveling up toward Nomad. Oh, and they’re officially an Unreal Authorized Training Center—meaning Epic Games sees them as legit Unreal experts and supports their training efforts, not just casual users. So, they’re not just dabbling—they live and breathe Unreal.
- Right now, all we’ve got are a handful of team posts and blurbs from March through May 2025.
Community Pulse
Dev Communication: Largely absent after springing some info on the game around- a few small site posts, a scattershot on some Subreddits, etc.
Discord Activity: Small, largely inactive channels are either incorrectly set up and not displaying history or are dead. A lot of work will definitely be needed to cobble together a community.
Steam Discussion Forums: Basically a ghost town.
Red Flags: Not really a red flag, but the lines of communication need a huge kick in the ass before they drop a demo, IMO.
Worth Following:
Easiest move right now is just hit wishlist or follow it on Steam and let the updates come to you. They’ve tossed a few posts up on Bluesky, and if you’re really bored you can park yourself in their Discord and wait for signs of life.
Skip These:
The other social platforms are either dead or irrelevant. (Yes, talking about X.)
The Drama
No drama here! So far, the devs are keeping it clean. People who’ve spotted it seem into the nomadic theme, but it’s early days.
Final Thoughts
Right now, there’s just not enough here to change my original take of “who fucking knows” from the trailer. Whoever wrote this post calling it an “open-world RPG” probably nailed it better than “survival.” Could be chasing tags, could be real features—we’ll see.
I’m mostly wondering if this thing lands in Conan/Valheim territory (MMO-lite with a survival sticker slapped on) or goes the Medieval Dynasty route (life sim with a couple survival bars tacked on).
Likelihood of Release: Probably high unless the studio runs into money problems.
Likelihood It’s Worth Your Time: Can’t call it yet.
Thank you for the thorough breakdown. This is precisely the kind of content I’d like to see!
You absolutely smashed it. Well written and researched. Keep them coming.
