The Infected V20 Is Almost Here!

Back at the end of August, we posted asking for feedback from players about the game—and here’s the first set of changes.

Disclosure: I’m the Community Manager for The Infected, and I handle Discord, Steam, and other community platforms.

Back at the end of August, we posted asking for feedback from players about the game—what you liked, what you didn’t, and where you thought we could improve. The response has been awesome, with over 200 replies. Now, we’re creeping closer to patch time.

If you follow any creators on YouTube, you might have seen a few of them showing off some of the changes coming in V20. Shout out to ThatFoolishGrrl and GameEdged!
While some stuff is still being tested—and not everything you saw in their videos may make it to the live branch—I wanted to give you a rough sketch of what’s expected in the next patch.

Right now, we’re aiming to release it early next week.

Changes in V20:

  • Removal of the Landclaim Pole:
    • Will be deleted on load—no more build restrictions.
  • Tutorial Changes:
    • Reflects the removal of the Landclaim Pole.
  • Electrical & Mechanical Parts:
    • These items are now only lootable and can no longer be crafted.
  • AI Changes:

    • More hit reaction when attacking AI.
    • Minor skin adjustments, removal of the shield guy, and tweaks to some animations.

  • Wandering AI:
    • Added wandering AI and related settings.

    • You can now enable/disable chickens and frogs.
  • Coffee and Tea in POIs:
    • Coffee and tea tins added to POIs.
    • Coffee and tea will provide temporary boosts to warmth stats
  • New Military Tent POIs:
    • A few new military tent points of interest have been added.
  • TV Functionality:
    • Added a TV that, for now, plays four no-copyright music videos.
  • Decor Additions:
    • 21 new decor items added for more customization options.
  • Greenhouse Watering System:
    • Greenhouses must now be connected to a water pipe to irrigate plant beds.
  • Backup/Autosave Folder:
    • A new autosave folder is created with five autosave slots.

Bug Fixes:

  • Blizzard Temperature Bug:
    • Fixed an issue where the temperature would stay stuck if a blizzard ended when spring started.
  • Cave Bug:
    • Fixed a hole in a cave that caused players to fall through the ground.

That’s the current overview for V20! Remember that some things are still being tested, but we aim to push this live early next week. Let me know if you’ve got any feedback on what you’re seeing/reading, especially with new features like the TV or the wandering AI. Thanks for sticking with us, and we appreciate all the feedback!

Soooooo stoked. The Infected is the only survival game I consistently come back to. It has my favorite systems and mechanics and it just gets better with time.

Removal of the land claim pole is a huge one. I used to use it to mark POI’s before the mad annotations became a thing. Also, removal of the shield guy is a big win. I’ve also wondered why we never had hot drinks for winter blizzard warmth, especially with the addition of the fireplaces. Glad we do now. Keep up the good work over there.

I Like The no Build Zone Restrictions and it will just make it harder for the Mechanical Parts and Electrical Parts not being Craftable

I have almost 2000 hrs at this point been playing The Infected ever since the very early stage so I’ve seen most of the changes (still miss the old map) and features come and go. What I like most is the customisation which allows you to play your style according to one’s mood. Haven’t played since the update V20 yet but like the idea of no build restriction, a very welcome change. I just hope we get some new building skins asap.
