POI: Tim

My name is Tim; I’m a 32-year-old Swede from the northern parts of Sweden. I have always been creating games, starting back in the RPG Maker XP days. Since I didn’t know coding then, I got into graphics design instead. Originally educated to be an electrician, I realized I wanted to work with computers instead and decided to study computer science. As soon as we started learning programming, I found myself coding small games until late in the evening. Since then, my passion has only grown. While studying, I spent 2 years with 2 others building a mobile game called Gnomies using Java. After that, I moved over to Unity for my hobby projects and managed to land a part-time gig at a small startup indie studio. Eventually, I started getting opportunities to give guest lectures on game development and even teach Unity Development to Game development students. All this was done in parallel with my own education. A big IT consulting firm headhunted me, and when I finally got my master’s in computer science, I moved to Stockholm to work. Since then, I have worked on some of the largest titles in the world at amazing studios as a consultant/contractor. Some more known places I’ve worked at are King, Mag Interactive, Toca Boca, Rovio, and Mojang (Minecraft).

Over the years, I have maintained my passion for developing games in my spare time. In 2020, I started working on Far North, a survival game inspired by the terrain and weather I grew up in. I started working on it and brought my two friends to the project. But over the years I am now the only one left working on it. The game is an ambitious Procedural Co-op open-world survival game with shifting seasons (summer, autumn, winter, and spring). Over the years, the game has accumulated about 15k wishlists on Steam and is available to play an early alpha version on Itch.io. You can keep up with game announcements and updates through Discord, though keep in mind I am treating it purely as a hobby project to reduce the pressure of “releasing it.”

At this point, I am running my own Game Consulting Company named Legnd with my wife.

Survival Link

Survival games have been one of my favorite Genres since Minecraft came out (yes, I consider it a lightweight survival game). What really sparked my love for survival games was The Long Dark. I love the mix of scavaging for items and battling nature (both elements and wildlife). Another lightweight survival game I love is Valheim; I’m a big fan of games that combine survival elements with creative elements such as complex building.

Check Out Some Games I Love!

  • Minecraft – Probably the greatest game of all time.
  • Final Fantasy 7 – Grew up playing this over and over. Also one of the greatest games of all time with an amazing story.
  • The Long Dark – Probably the greatest pure survival game in my book.
  • Valheim – RPG Survival game. Somehow blends old-school RPG vibes with the modern survival game genre. Great with friends and outstanding procedurally generated worlds.
  • What Remains of Edith Finch – I love short narrative stories; there are really too few of these kinds of games.

Things I Love

  • One Piece – A legendary anime that I’ve been following the past 17 years
  • Amazon Kindle Paperwhite – an amazing device to read books on that mimics paper but fits in your pocket. Perfect when traveling, and you don’t want to bring a thousand books as luggage
  • Samsung The Frame TV– This is a cool way to have your TV look like a painting when it is not in use.
  • Apple AirPods Pro– I can’t live without them, quite frankly. 😂
  • Robotic Mower– If you have a yard, this saves you so much time and perfectly cuts your grass.
