I’ll Save You Money
You know the drill: you make it through Steam’s checkout screen, you’re feeling pretty good, and then you hit the forums only to see people screaming, “I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS GAME IS DEAD,” and “WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME THIS WAS THEIR THIRD ABANDONED TITLE?” I get it. The sale is live, your wishlist is popping off with alerts about DEEP DISCOUNTS, and you only have days to decide what makes it through the checkout screen.
But. 🍑
I’ve got dozens of abandoned games listed on my Curator page that are continually listed on sale. These fuckers are dead. Dead dead. Developers have ghosted and the games are unplayable. There’s a game on my list that’s unplayable because the developer admitted they messed up a backend update and bailed. Yet it still goes on sale for 50 cents. Sure, it’s just 50 cents, but you could use that to buy something actually worth your time.
You’ll Get My Opinion
That’s where following our Curator page comes in handy. It’s like getting another opinion. Or another if you’ve already asked your cat, your guildmates, YouTube, and your reflection. Another opinion doesn’t hurt—it’s not like you have to act on it! (And your input matters the most, anyway.)
If I like a game, I’ll recommend it. Simple as that. If I don’t like it personally—not because it’s broken or anything, just not my cup of tea—I mark it as informational and provide input instead of highlighting it as “Recommended.” I can’t stomach claiming I recommend something if I didn’t actually click with it. 😅
(I’ll also call out when I think the quality or performance is crap – though I can’t curse on Curator reviews.)
I (May) Introduce You To New Shit
I’m not all-knowing. I don’t have every single game on the list. (I did add Valheim for giggles though.) But I’m always adding to it, digging around to find games that fit the Hashtag Survival vibe, and tossing in other gems worth a second look. (Definitely get Little Nightmares!) Given that many survival titles come from indie developers who use little to no marketing, you might discover games here that you’ve never heard of!
And for the 1/2 point!
Not everyone wants to be a content creator, and I get that. (But if you’ve got a camera… No, not that kind of creator. Unless you want to be, no judgment!)
It’s a huge time investment to chase down news and info for survival games. Developer updates are scattered across various platforms. (Shameless plug: Combat this by signing up for our newsletter!) Discord is often the preferred—or only—platform for game news, but there’s a limit on how many servers you can join: free accounts max out at 100 servers, and Nitro accounts at 200. (It’s incredibly easy to hit that cap just by following game servers—I’m in over 200 Discords across multiple accounts and they’re not all game servers.)
Eventually, you’ll need to purge some servers, so why waste hours combing through your list when you can check my Curator page on Steam? Quickly remove dead 💩 or inactive Discords and save yourself the headache.
